Writer's Block: Cinqo de Mayo

Do you celebrate your country's independence? If so, how?

is this question trying to insinuate that today is an independence day of some kind? lol americans

fyi, cinco de mayo is not mexico's independence day (sept 16) but in memory of when the mexican army, outnumbered and outgunned, kicked the asses of the french army which was 2x their size and well-equipped, and invading mexico. ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡VIVA LOS MEXICANOS!!!!!!!!!
srsly americans are this dumb?

umm yeah they are. just like oktoberfest celebrates german independence. not to mention st. patrick's day.
srsly man, someone once told me that st patricks day was irish independence. i was like SAINT patricks day?? what did he free the irish from the british for like 10mins then snakes took it back?
st patricks day IS independence day, but not for ireland. for all of humanity. it is written that on that day, all humankind will bond together and create rivers of eternal love that will flow through the streets.

wait. maybe it was internal love? like vomit. ill have to check my runes.

regardless, it is a day of independence.
i am always highly fond of days where drinking celebrates beating up on the french. i just lol at how many americans really have no idea about any country other than their own, even as they culturally bandwagon all over something, hehe
yeah at least we know the diff between 16 de septiembre and cinco de mayo around here ffs. 16 de septiembre is a bigass party day too.
yeah, southern border states tend to have a better idea of mexicano holidays because of the proximity plus many more latino immigrants settle closer to border. even in norcal tho you hear people saying mexican independence!!11 constantly. its lolzy
cinco de mayo was brought to the attn of america in 1967, when students in california realized there were no mexican holidays.

i learned that today.
which i mention only to show that i have bonus knowledge, not to in any way attempt to actually relate to the conversation.
Canada is easily just as guilty: I don't think I even knew what Cinco de Mayo was celebrated for until.. 2 or 3 years ago.

Is there a holiday somewhere?
If yes, drink your ass off.

whatever, you need to get your facts straight. . . today's the day that pancho villa ate five jars of mayo, thus ensuring a victory at the battle of zacatecas. . .
I thought it was the battle of Dos Equis?

Damn. I am just going to sit here and drink a few margaritas like the dumb American I am.

(no really though, I totally agree with your OP, a lot of ignorance in the US unfortunately)
really, it's not the mexican in me that knew, i am just EXTREMELY fond of days that celebrate trouncing the french. the croats had a bunch too.
